Maintenance frequency: These Smartvalve assemblies require only infrequent maintenance. The valve will ideally never require disassembly, but if it begins to leak, or the knob becomes difficult to turn, cleaning and replacing the necessary o-rings should occur.
These are the things you'll need to disassemble and clean your Smartvalve: Shocker lube, Q-tips, napkins/paper towel/cloth.
You can only service the Smartvalve if there is no tank attached, or if the attached tank has zero psi. If so, then you can remove it by removing the c-clip from the side of the housing around the end of the valve. Be careful that the clip doesn't spring across the room once you remove it. It may take a while to get off. Inline and old-style dovetail Smartvalves will have the clip on the left side of the housing; new-style dovetail valves have it on the right.
Pull the Smartvalve out the other side of the housing. Clean the old grease off the two o-rings around the valve (outer rings), then clean the inside of the housing where the valve goes. Re-grease the outer o-rings as well as the inner o-ring visible down in the bore. Replace any o-rings if necessary.
