A simple idea to lengthen the distance between the foregrip and the frame. The concept was brought to my attention by a viewer of my youtube videos (then again by another player a few months later). I initially thought this would be an easy project but once I drew up the preliminary design I realized it wasn't quite that simple in reality. Having said that, I believe my answer to be worthy. I toyed with the design from several different angles, and eventually arrived at a solution that is both reliable and easiest to manufacture.
· Extends the foregrip forward over an inch.
· Drop-in upgrade that requires no marker modifications.
· Uses the foregrip's dovetail design to allow quick and easy removal of the grip.
· Includes a circuit "bridge" board, housed internally.
· Mounts to the transfer plate screws for stability - this also allows the greatest gap between the extender and trigger guard.
Mini-only Extender:
This extends the foregrip 1.15 inches forward. Here's the "version-1" design along with its prototype part:
I was finally able to produce these in June of 2011. I had to make a few small changes, but they were mostly just alterations to the final surface finish which was a byproduct of the machining process. Here's how the finished versions look: (the below picture shows a pair of blasted black and a pair of glossy black)
Universal Mini/Axe version:
People asked about using these on Axes from the beginning of the Mini-only extender development. The funny thing is, Axes already locate their foregrips an inch forward compared to the previous Invert Mini markers. So it would seem people just want an extended grip on either marker.
This interest led me to alter the design of the Mini-only version in order to make it compatible with the trigger guard dovetail system, to fit on both markers. The machining for this is more intricate but ultimately it doesn't take much more time compared to the Mini version, which means they'll end up being the same price. Standardizing the upgrade part for both Minis and Axes makes it easier to keep them in stock.
You can find my "current" array of extenders (whatever that is at the time you're reading this page) on my sister-site Nummech.com! Ultimately these universal-style extenders were the actual upgrade that ended up winning over the Mini-only version. They're much more popular and people seem to enjoy using them on both Minis and Axes. Out of all the items made by Nummech, these are available in the highest assortment of color choices.
Angled Extenders:
Over the months I drafted a few extenders which angled the grip foregrip or backward. I originally had plans to make all these extender types but ultimately realized they were simply too complex to manufacture. The machining wasn't really the problem (although they would have been noticeably more expensive) the true problem was packing more intricate electronics into a very small space. Best case was the electronics would use a small wire pigtail instead of the nice integrated circuit board bridge. But this idea really isn't viable for production because it's too fragile and easy to break.
There are no plans to produce angled foregrip extenders at this time.
Krypto-Extender:
A new extender based on the cosmetics of the Inception Kryptonite Axe bodies. Coming soon!
