On my camera case page I talked about a wearable helmet camera mounted to my mask. This page is about how I mounted it.
Vents velcro attachment adapter: (2009)
When I first purchased the camera (VholdR ContourHD) it came with several mounting attachments used to affix the camera onto various surfaces. The default one is a flat-surface mount with a sticky sheet that I simply slapped onto the side of my Vents mask. This worked for one weekend but the small Vents jewel sticker ended up coming loose toward the end, and the camera fell off. Very sad!
When this happened I knew I had to actually make something better suited to mount on my mask. For this I choose to replicate the factory Vents lens attachments (the items that hold the lens via the head strap). Long story short I ended up machining a completely new mount, designed to hold the camera's dovetail attachment perfectly. It looks like this:
The finished assembly is stronger than the factory plastic mask clip which is a good thing for safety. The camera-side of the mount is also easily removeable since it uses hte Contour velcro circle attachment, which can be broken free for disassembly.
Vents direct Contour rail mount: (2013)
After several years of use, the plastic OEM Contour bracket became too worn out from use on the paintball field. The plastic cracked and eventually broke completely. After this happened, I finally decided to make a dedicated earpiece for the mask which would interface with the camera directly, instead of using the velcro attachment.
The advantage of this new part is that it'll be smaller and more compact than the previous version using the Contour velcro system. However, the downside is this attachment doesn't have a height adjustment since the camera now attaches directly to the mask. Basically, when designing this part, I simply made the camera point "straight forward" at the same elevation as the earpiece itself. It turned out to be acceptable in video, but still there's no adjustment.
Please note that this all parts on this page are NOT for sale. Liability reasons prevents me from making mask parts in case of injury. Please don't ask me to sell anything listed on this page, I'm simply not allowed to sell anything here.
